Beginners have the support and encouragement of club instructors, who are normally on hand during Wednesday & Sunday club sessions. Help is given to set-up and test fly newly built “trainer” aircraft, leading onto friendly and informal flying instruction to the BMFA scheme. New pilots are encouraged to take the BMFA’s “A” proficiency test, to enable safe solo flight. Club rules require this to be attained before flying solo at Westonzoyland.
As experience develops, pilots can then take the more advanced “B” proficiency test, which enables them to fly at competitions and public displays. They can also then obtain an instructor’s qualification, so they may help others.
The club has BMFA appointed examiners for fixed wing aircraft, who conduct the A & B proficiency examinations. An appointment with your chosen examiner can be arranged when your flying standard has reached the required stage. Your instructor will advise when a pupil is ready. Regular sessions for taking proficiency tests are held throughout the flying season.
