Some members are able to give help to beginners to set-up and test fly newly built “trainer” aircraft.  Beginners should read the BMFA publication “ A Flying Start” . New pilots are encouraged to take the BMFA’s “A” proficiency test, to enable safe solo flight.  Club rules require this to be attained before flying solo at Westonzoyland.

As experience develops, pilots can then take the more advanced “B” proficiency test, which enables them to fly at competitions and public displays. Competent pilots can also obtain an instructor’s qualification, so they may help others.

The club has BMFA appointed examiners for fixed wing aircraft, who conduct the A & B proficiency examinations. An appointment with the club examiner can be arranged when your flying standard has reached the required stage.
